Roto Scoping

Rotoscoping

Penguin Rotoscoping is a motion graphics project I developed using footage I captured during a visit to the Montreal Biodome. The video features a penguin playfully shaking its tail while swimming, which I transformed through rotoscoping techniques.

Tools

The project was created using Adobe Photoshop and After Effects, showcasing both technical skill and a playful subject matter.

The Process

I began by importing the selected video file into Photoshop, where it was broken down into a frame-by-frame sequence of about 60 frames. From there, I outlined the penguin in each frame, gradually adding details and color to bring the character to life. Once the penguin’s movement and design were complete, I created a background inspired by a pink and purple sunset. To enhance the scene, I animated clouds drifting across the frames, giving the impression that the penguin was flying through the sky. After finishing the animation, I refined the details on the penguin and carefully reviewed the motion to ensure the transitions were seamless and the overall piece felt polished and fluid.
